Carlos Gomes

Carlos Gomes (1836-1896) was a Brazilian composer and conductor, renowned for his significant contributions to opera in the 19th century. Born in Campinas, São Paulo, Gomes is often celebrated as one of the first major Brazilian composers to gain international recognition. His music primarily falls within the opera genre, with notable works including "O Guarani" (1870), which is based on a novel by José de Alencar, and "Fosca" (1883).
